The card bed was designed by Elliot Lord in summer 2015. The purpose of it is to provide a free resource to homeless people and refugees.
The beds are made from 11 pieces of strong card that can be flat-packed for easy transportation.
They use plastic sheets to wrap around them to keep them dry.
The technology of the design works so that all the pieces interlock to form one complete unit that is stable and will have 2 or 3 payers of card in different places to add to the strength.
It benefits the people who sleep on them by getting them off the cold ground (card does not get cold). It is more comfortable as there is a little flexibility and these two factors mean there is less chance of becoming ill due to exposure and they can save lives in cold weather.
